Service Description

We are located in Potosi, TX, and would love for your friends and family to take a private tour of our farm! We offer a unique adventure that provides hands-on experience in an active bee hive! Our goal at SGF is to educate the community about the incredible benefits of honey bees and open you up to a world of tiny organisms doing amazing things for the environment. You will be provided with a beekeeping suit to keep you safe while examining the hive. Crissy will explain the tools and practices of beekeeping, the biology of the honey bee, and parts of a hive. This will be your opportunity to ask all the questions about going through the frames. Some Topics: Basics of the bee/bee biology Learn to identify different stages of honey bee development Roles and responsibilities of the bees in their colony Necessary equipment Beehive components Question and answer session at the end of class HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN THE APIARY Our Private Hive Tours are designed to cater to your needs, whether you're a small or large group. The minimum cost for a private tour is $75, which covers five spots. The $75 fee is charged at check-out to reserve your private tour. This tour must be booked two days before the date to ensure adequate staff. Private Hive Tours are available on Fridays and Saturdays at 9-10:30am and 11-12:30pm. We begin offering them on March 1 and stop in early November depending on the weather dependent. Actual start-to-finish times may vary based on the number of guests in your group. Things to know: We are located in Potosi, TX, a small community outside of Abilene, TX.   Adults and children 13 years and older can register for the class.   Classes will be canceled on rainy days or temperatures below 60 degrees. In this instance, we will refund you in full, but we'll do our best to have a makeup class day.   During the spring classes, attire should include a lightweight long-sleeve shirt, jeans or pants (no holes or capris), closed-toed shoes (preferably boots), and a baseball cap. If you have your own bee jacket/suit and gloves, please bring them with you; otherwise, a full suit will be provided for use during class.   No use of perfumes or colognes.    A liability waiver will be filled out before entering the apiary.   ​ YOU CAN NOT ATTEND THE CLASS IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO BEE STINGS Please note that this fee is nonrefundable if canceled within 48 hours of the start date, so please check your schedule before signing up.


Cancellation Policy

Please schedule your Tour 4 days before the desired date. This ensures availability. If you need a sooner date, please call us, and we will try to accommodate you! To cancel or reschedule, please contact us 48 hours before event.
